      Adjuster license requirements

          Candidates can schedule in-person and remote exams beginning 9/15/2020 through the new psi scheduling website, https://www.psiexams.com/njin. The Department of Banking and Insurance will continue to partner with PSI to ensure the integrity and security of the exam process as it expands to remote testing. To schedule a PSI remote exam, the license applicant’s desktop or laptop computer must have a webcam, microphone, and internet connection that supports PSI technology requirements.

          After completing my pre-licensing, how should I prepare for test day?

          The following suggestions will help you prepare for your exam:

          • only consider the actual information given in the question, don’t read the question considering the possibilities or exceptions.
          • planned preparation increases the probability of passing.
          • Start with a current copy of the Candidate Information Bulletin and use the Exam Content Summary as the basis of your study.
          • read study materials that cover all topics in the content outline.
          • take notes on what you study. Putting information in writing helps you memorize it and is also a great business practice.
          • Discuss new terms or concepts as often as possible with your colleagues. this will test your understanding and reinforce ideas.
          • Your studies will be most effective if you study frequently, for periods of about 45 to 60 minutes. concentration tends to wander when you study for long periods of time.

            • How is the exam?

            test day

            On the day of the exam, you must arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. this additional time is for registration, identification, and familiarization with the testing process. if you are late, you may not be admitted to the test site and you will forfeit your test registration fee.

            Candidates must register for the exam using their legal first and last name as it appears on their government-issued identification. all identification required below must match the first and last name under which the candidate is registered. Candidates are required to bring two (2) forms of identification with a valid (non-expired) signature to the testing site. If the candidate does not bring proper identification or the names of the candidates do not match, the candidate will not be allowed to take the exam and the exam fee will not be refunded.

                other requirements

                Candidates taking the life, health, property, accident, title, personal lines, or bail exams must also present, on the day of the exam, a certificate of completion of the pre-licensing education course (an electronic version or hard copy will be accepted) or a waiver issued by the nj department of banking and insurance. for a make-up exam, this must be submitted or your failing grade report may be submitted.

                Candidates taking the Surplus Lines, Public Adjuster, or Instructor exams do not need to present either of the two documents listed above (Certificate of Pre-Licensing Education Course Completion or a waiver issued by the Department of Banking and Insurance of nj).

                security procedures

                The following security procedures will be applied during the exam:

                • Only non-programmable calculators that are silent, battery-powered, do not have paper-tape printing capabilities, and do not have a keyboard containing the alphabet will be permitted at the test site.
                • Candidates may only bring approved items into the exam room.
                • All personal belongings of candidates must be placed in the secure storage provided at each site before entering the exam room. personal belongings include, but are not limited to, the following items:
                  • electronic devices of any kind, including cell/mobile phones, recording devices, electronic watches, cameras, pagers, laptops, tablets (p. ipads), music players (e.g. ipods), smart watches, radios, or electronic games.
                  • bulky or loose clothing or coats that could be used to conceal recording devices or notes. For safety reasons, outerwear such as but not limited to: open sweaters, cardigans, shawls, scarves, hoodies, vests, jackets, and coats are not permitted in the testing room. in the event you are required to remove outer clothing, you must wear appropriate clothing underneath, such as a shirt or blouse.
                  • hats or headgear not worn for religious purposes or as religious attire, including hats, baseball caps, or visors.
                  • other personal items, including purses, notebooks, reading or reference material, briefcases, backpacks, wallets, pens, pencils, other writing devices, food, drinks, and good luck items.
                  • Although secure storage for personal items is provided at the exam site for your convenience, psi is not responsible for any damage, loss, or theft of personal belongings or prohibited items brought, stored, or left at the exam. place. psi assumes no duty of care with respect to such items and makes no representation that the secure storage provided will be effective in protecting such items. If you leave any item at the test site after your test and do not claim it within 30 days, it will be disposed of or donated, at psi’s sole discretion.
                  • People accompanying an exam candidate may not wait in the exam center, inside the building, or on the building property. this applies to guests of any nature, including drivers, children, friends, family, colleagues or instructors.
                  • No smoking, eating, or drinking is allowed in the test center.
                  • During the registration process, all candidates will be asked if they possess any prohibited items. Candidates may also be asked to empty their pockets and give them to the supervisor to ensure they are empty. the proctor may also ask candidates to roll up the ends of their sleeves and the bottoms of their pants legs to ensure no notes or recording devices are hidden there.
                  • Supervisors will also carefully inspect eyeglass frames, tacks, or any other clothing that may be used to house a recording device. Proctors will request to inspect such items in candidates’ pockets.
                  • If prohibited items are found during check-in, candidates must place them in the secure storage provided or return these items to their vehicle. psi will not be responsible for the security of personal belongings or prohibited items.
                  • Any candidate who possesses prohibited items in the exam room must immediately invalidate their test results, and psi must notify the exam sponsor of the fact.
                  • Any candidate seen giving or receiving assistance in an exam, encountering unauthorized materials, or violating security regulations will be asked to surrender all exam materials and leave the test center. all such cases will be reported to the exam sponsor.
                  • copying or communicating exam content is a violation of a candidate’s contract with psi and of federal and state law. Either may result in disqualification of exam results and may lead to legal action.
                  • Once candidates have been seated and the exam begins, they may leave the exam room only to use the restroom and only after obtaining permission from the invigilator. the candidate will not receive additional time to complete the exam.

                    • How is the exam scored?

                    Your score will be provided to you immediately upon completion of the exam. The following summary describes the score reporting process:

                    • on screen: your score will appear immediately on the computer screen. this will happen automatically at the end of the time allowed for the exam.
                    • if you pass, you will immediately receive a success notification.
                    • If you do not pass, you will receive a diagnostic report indicating your strengths and weaknesses by exam type with the score report.
                    • Paper: An unofficial score report will be printed at the test site.

                      • 3. apply for a new jersey insurance license
